Venture Scouts
Venture Scouts take on bigger challenges, planning their own expeditions and adventures while developing advanced skills and leadership.
About Venture Scouts
Our Venture Scout section supports older young people (typically aged around 15–17) as they progress beyond the Scout section and take on greater independence and responsibility within Scouting.
Venture Scouts build on the skills developed in Scouts, but with a much stronger emphasis on youth-led planning, leadership, and self-directed adventure. Rather than following a structured programme set by adult leaders, Ventures are encouraged to design and run much of their own programme, including planning meetings, organising activities, and leading expeditions. They further develop outdoor and expedition skills such as advanced navigation, hill-walking, camping, multi-day expeditions, water-based activities, first aid, cooking, and risk management in more challenging environments.
At this age, Scouting becomes more focused on personal development, teamwork, and independence. Venture Scouts typically take part in longer and more ambitious adventures such as extended hikes, overnight or multi-night expeditions, residential experiences, and possibly international trips. There is also a stronger focus on community involvement, service projects, and taking on leadership roles both within their own unit and in the wider Scout group.
Our Venture section meets from 2000 to 2100 every Tuesday. The section aims to provide a bridge between the Scout section and young adult Scouting, helping members grow in confidence, responsibility, and capability while continuing to enjoy challenging outdoor adventure.
